Tell us your favorite charity and why it is your favorite charity.
Franktown Open Hearts is close to my heart because our family has been involved since the beginning. FOH primarily works with Franklin area school age children grades 1-12 every day after school and all day during the summer. They provide educational help and recreational activities as well as exposure to many different vocations. Franktown Open Hearts offers various programming throughout the year including tutoring, woodworking, automotive repair, culinary arts, sewing, welding, public speaking, horseback riding, performing arts, summer camps, field trips, and computer training.
How can the community help your charity?
Most people assume that affluent Williamson County has no poverty; however, the community that FOH serves is every bit as destitute as the housing projects in inner city Nashville. Of the families we serve:
100% live in single parent homes
100% receive government assistance to live
100% are on the free/reduced lunch program
Only 12% of the adults have graduated high school
Over 50% of the parents do not work
Average annual income is $12,563
Many families do not own an automobile
